At dsm-firmenich, we know challenges like these all too well. But we also know that prevention is better than the cure. That’s why we use our science and research capabilities to address today’s most pressing nutrition problems. Thanks to our industry-leading capabilities in nutrition, we’re developing solutions like micronutrient powders and staple fortification, adding vitamins and minerals to foods such as flour, oil, and rice. With the help of government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, we aim to bring these solutions to 1 billion people by 2030 – helping address the problems of hidden hunger and micronutrient deficiency.
And that’s not all. We’re increasingly focusing on solutions that enable our customers to reduce salt, sugar, and fat in food and drinks, while still keeping products tasty and shelf stable. Leveraging our expertise in flavor and ingredients, we help people enjoy more nutritious, more sustainable diets without the bittersweet taste of compromise.
Our appetite for progress stretches beyond food. For instance, in a world where children under five account for 70% of all malaria deaths, we’re part of a research project aiming to help prevent malaria by adding mosquito-repellent scents to everyday consumer products (think soaps and detergents).
Throughout it all, we aim to keep a close eye on the affordability and accessibility of our innovations – because we understand that solutions like these can only be truly sustainable if they reach the people who need them.

In India, for instance, we collaborate with our local supplier to enable mint farmers to enhance their earning potential. It’s an approach that includes training and advising the smallholders we source our ingredients from on improving yields and building resilience to climate change. Plus, we’re promoting entrepreneurship among women and supporting farmers with low literacy levels with professional development opportunities.
